David Amador has career day for UTSA

David Amador leads Latinos in Week 12 of College Football

UT-San Antonio wide receiver David Amador II showed the dynamic burst that made him one of the most exciting players in Texas high school football. Finally healthy after a nagging hamstring injury, Amador had the best outing of his career in Week 12.

The sophomore from Houston’s North Shore High scored his first touchdown of the season. That TD was an electrifying 51-yard catch and scamper reminiscent of his high school highlights.

He had a career-high nine catches for a career-high 122 receiving yards in the Roadrunners’ 48-27 victory over UNT.

Amador played wide receiver most of his high school career, but he took over as quarterback as a senior after an injury to the starter. He led North Shore to the Texas UIL 6A championship game as a senior after winning the title as a junior receiver.

Player of the Week: David Amador II

David Amador contributed as a true freshman in 2023 at UTSA. He played in all 13 games last season. Amador caught 11 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown last season. He has been limited to two games this season because of a hamstring injury.

Healthy again, he surpassed his previous career totals of 108 receiving yards in one game.

Amador was named Our Esquina’s Latino Player of the Week for Week 12. Here are other Latino highlights in Week 12.

Sophomore Carlos Hernandez had a season-high 67 receiving yards on four catches with one touchdown for Washington State in a 38-35 loss. After an injury delayed his start to the season, Hernandez has made steady progress.

He has scored three touchdowns, finding the end zone in three of the five games he’s played in this season.

Caleb Sanchez shines

Former St. John Bosco star Caleb Sanchez, one of the brightest Latino stars in the Class of 2024, is balling at Columbia.

The true freshman quarterback had the best performance of his career to lead Columbia to a 21-12 victory over Brown. Sanchez completed 12 of 27 passes for 241 yards with three touchdowns.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from Carson, Calif., set career highs for passes completed, passing yards and touchdowns.

Sanchez, who has Salvadoran and Filipino roots, has made the most of his two appearances this season.

Sanchez was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Not bad for only his second college appearance.

LSU kicker Damian Ramos made 3 of 4 field goal attempts. He hit a 50-yarder in the loss in the 27-16 against Florida. Notre Dame nose tackle Gabriel Rubio had a tackle in the  35-14 victory over Virginia.
