MLB Rankings: The 10 Best Shortstops in the Game
In the age of the shortstop, who takes the number one spot in Our Esquina's MLB Rankings of the game's toughest position?
MLB Rankings: The Top-Rated SS
Francisco Lindor, New York Mets
Francisco Lindor‘s time with the Mets has barely started and already he’s become a fan-favorite. It’s not just his elite level of play, it’s his style and personality too.
Last week, Lindor made his way into the team’s spring training facility wearing a replica of Eddie Murphy’s Mets jacket in the popular film ‘Coming to America’. With stunts like these, how could you not like this guy?
Then, when you consider his contributions on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and you start to wonder if there’s anything Mr. Smile can’t do.
He leads all shortstops in MLB with a 29.2 fWAR, trails only Andrelton Simmons in Fangraphs’ defensive rating, and has been a consistent candidate for the MVP award throughout his entire career.
If he can lead the Mets to the promised land in 2021, there’s no saying by how much Lindor will outdo Tatís’s contract by.
