Sophie Guitron stars in NFL’s ‘Chase Something’ campaign

Flag football star Sophie Guitron aims to open doors for Latinas

Flag football star Sophie Guitron, resilience isn’t just a character trait. It’s a motivator for the 2025 NFL Latino Youth Honors female national winner.

Guitron showed her talent and passion for flag football this past weekend at the NFL FLAG Championship in Canton, Ohio. Her Costa Mesa, Calif., Chargers fell 7-6 against the Austin Texans in the championship game on Sunday, but she left her mark with a series of highlight plays.

Sophie Guitron also appeared in the NFL’s “Chase Something” campaign promoting flag football, which will make its Olympic Games debut at the LA28 Olympics. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and Olympian Jordan Chiles highlight the campaign.

’Chase Something’

The NFL’s “Chase Something” campaign featured Guitron as one of flag football’s rising stars.

Guitron has showcased what it takes to go through hardship and triumph while proudly representing her Mexican heritage.

“Growing up, I feel like I didn’t really have that person to look up to in flag (football) just because the sport was still new,” Guitron told Good Morning Football. “But now I feel like I can be the person that people look up to.

“I take pride in representing my Mexican community and my family, so being that person people can look up to, it’s been an honor and it’s been a pleasure.”

The Redondo Beach, Calif., native’s journey has not been easy. She’s been active in sports since she started playing soccer as a toddler. She was sidelined for two years with no physical activity, however, after going through open-heart surgery when she was 11 years old. During the time she was sidelined, she developed a passion for flag football while watching others play.

“I think (the surgery) was probably one of the hardest things,” Guitron told NBC Sports. “It was harder than being hospitalized and catching up with all that work that I missed because, for me, sports was such a way of life, so it was really hard for me to accept the fact that I couldn’t run.

“I couldn’t speed walk because they were afraid that my heart rate was going to kind of get too high. Then I’d just collapse.”

Once Guitron was cleared to play, she became a force. The former Mira Costa High School standout won countless awards. She led her team to a Bay League championship.

Gold medalist

Guitron earned MVP honors  with selections to the Daily Breeze All-Area Team and the All-CIF Southern Section Division 2 roster. She was named the 2024 Player of the Year by the Daily Breeze.

Guitron earned a spot on the inaugural Under Armour Next All-America Girls’ Flag Football Game.

At the 2024 Junior International Cup, Guitron earned a gold medal with the 17U U.S. Girls’ Flag National Team. They defeated Panama 27–7 in the Gold Medal Game.

“I think for me, the more I accomplish, the more I feel motivated to go to that next level,” Guitron told Good Morning Football. “And really accomplish what I can and look for bigger goals.

“I think ‘Chase Something’ definitely means just keep pushing forward, just keep striving to be the best version of yourself.”

At the NFL Honors Event in February, she won a  $25,000 college grant as the Female NFL Latino Youth honors recipient after being nominated by the Los Angeles Rams.

“We’re thrilled to see how far flag football has come — and with its Olympic debut in LA28 on the horizon, there’s no better moment to spotlight the sport’s incredible potential and accessibility,” said Marissa Solis, SVP, Global Brand and Consumer Marketing, NFL. “Chase Something captures that evolution, celebrating athletes who embody the spirit of flag football while inviting others to be part of the movement and build their own legacy.”
