MLB enlists Lin-Manuel Miranda for latest campaign targeting Latinos
MLB set for campaign honoring Fernando Valenezuela
From In the Heights to Hamilton to Beisbol. the brilliant Lin-Manuel Miranda has now been enlisted by Major League Baseball to narrate its latest marketing campaign targeting and highlighting Latinos.
Miranda, the actor and producer behind Broadway hit Hamilton, narrated the three new multi-media spots MLB released for its “El Béisbol Es Otra Cosa,” campaign. The campaign translates to “Baseball is Something Else.”
All-Stars Ronald Acuña Jr., Francisco Lindor and Fernando Tatis Jr are featured in the campaign. Acuña, the Braves’ former NL MVP and Rookie of the Year, is a five-time All-Star. He’s from Venezuela. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, a native of Puerto Rico, is a five-time All-Star. Tatis, a three-time All-Star with the San Diego Padres, is from the Dominican Republic.
The marketing campaign celebrates the heritage and journeys of the players. Puerto Rican artist Danny Cortés created detailed miniatures to highlight “the essence of a player’s beginnings — turning everyday moments into powerful, lasting symbols,” MLB said in a release. “Featuring the vibrant presence of Dominican-born influencer Jess Judith, Puerto Rico’s soulful voice and salsa icon Gilberto Santa Rosa and the artistry of Venezuelan musician Beto Montenegro, the spots blend rhythm, heritage and passion to honor the players and communities whose love for baseball transcends boundaries, including in their storylines.”
Lin-Manuel Miranda, a Tony award-winning songwriter, actor, director and producer, has Puerto Rican roots. He is one of the most accomplished Latino artists of his time. Miranda has won a GRAMMY, an Emmy and a Pulitzer Prize.
Latino flavor
The spots will run in the United States and throughout Latin America. Almost a third of the players in the majors are from Latin America. Opening Day MLB rosters in 2025 had 265 players born outside the U.S.
