Syracuse receiver Trebor Peña puts stamp on career year

Trebor Peña sets several career marks against Miami

Trebor Peña saved his best performance of the season for Syracuse’s biggest game, helping the Orange upset Miami. The speedy receiver from Ocean Township, N.J., had a career-high 128 receiving yards in a 42-38 victory.

Peña also had an 11-yard run, which was his longest of the season. The redshirt junior’s numbers would have been even more impressive if not for a questionable illegal formation penalty that wiped out a 40-yard touchdown. Nonetheless, Trevor Peña delivered to knock the Hurricanes out of the ACC Championship Game.

Peña and the Orange overcame a 21-0 deficit. He torched the Miami secondary on a 50-yard reception, which was also his longest of the year. Peña also had a 25-yard touchdown reception to help Syracuse tie the score at 21 early in the third quarter.

Considering the magnitude of the victory, Trevor Peña is Our Esquina’s Latino College Football Player of the Week.

Peña’s story is one of perseverance. He was limited to a pair of punt returns against Army in 2023 because of injuries. He had 22 catches for 203 yards in 2022, and only 67 receiving yards on two receptions in 2021.

Trebor Peña returns to form

Trebor Peña had been a return specialist for most of his injury-plagued career until this year. It’s an understatement to declare this season a breakout year for Peña, who has 79 receptions for 871 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

“We don’t quit. We fight,” he told Syracuse.com. “That’s what Coach Fran (Brown) instills in us and he lives by that.”

Trebor Peña was talking about the team overall with that quote. That statement, however, also captures his own determination to rally back for the best season of his career.
