Devin Booker releases Nike ‘Book 1’ sneakers

Devin Booker adds 15 points for West

As the basketball world gathered for the 73rd NBA All-Star Game over the weekend, Indianapolis was full of Nike billboards featuring Mexican American Devin Booker.

The Phoenix Suns’ four-time All-Star released his first signature shoe, the Nike “Book 1.”

“Too excited about it,” Booker said during the NBA All-Star Game media day. “Nike just told me the shoe sold out in 2 or 3 minutes, I think.”

The Phoenix Suns guard also made a solid contribution off the bench for the West at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Devin Booker shines on court too

Devin Booker finished with 15 points in the Eastern Conference’s 211-186 victory over the Western Conference.

He added four rebounds, seven assists and two steals in the losing effort.

Booker, 27, is the second Latino to launch an NBA signature shoe, joining Carmelo Anthony, who has Puerto Rican roots from his father.

“It’s important, man,” Booker told Arizona Sports on his signature show. “It’s my first one, and if you’re gonna tell my story you gotta start with my family, so I wanted them involved.”

Devin Booker goes for ‘Future Classic’

“Early on, we landed on the phrase ‘future classic,’” Booker said last September. “At the beginning of the design process, we landed on the idea of the shoe combining lifestyle and performance worlds. The goal was to create something that would be timeless.”

Considering the Mexican tribute Jaime Jaquez Jr. paid during the Slam Dunk Contest and the game-high 50 points Karl-Anthony Towns scored during the All-Star Game, the Book 1 billboards added to the Latino flavor of the weekend.

It’s safe to say that NBA All-Star Weekend was a huge success for Latinos on and off the court.
