Texas’ Adrian Rodriguez leads Latinos at College World Series
Texas has trio of Latinos in starting lineup
Although Adrian Rodriguez is a self-declared “No sabo” kid, meaning his Spanish isn’t very strong, his game speaks loudly in every language. He proudly plays with Latino flair. There’s plenty of substance in the Texas sophomore’s game as well.
Rodriguez and his teammates Temo Becerra, Ethan Mendoza and Jason Flores have helped Texas return to Omaha, Neb., highlighting the Latinos to Watch in the Men’s College World Series.
As was evident during the Super Regionals and the Regionals, there’s plenty of Latino talent in college baseball. Texas leads the way with the most Latino starters among the eight teams at the College World Series, but West Virginia, Alabama and Georgia also have Latinos who are major contributors.
Here are the Latinos to watch during the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field:
Texas SS Adrian Rodriguez
Adrian Rodriguez, who is considered one of the top prospects for the 2027 MLB Draft, drove in a career-high five RBIs in Game 1 of the Super Regional. Despite being hampered by a hand injury early, the sophomore is hitting .306 with four home runs, two triples and 40 RBIs with 13 stolen bases over 50 games.

Texas 2B Temo Becerra
Temo Becerra, a Stanford graduate, is hitting .318 with six home runs and 42 RBIs this season. The second baseman returns to the College World Series for the first time since he reached Omaha with Stanford in 2023 as a redshirt freshman.

He’s hitting .312 with 20 doubles, two triples, 61 runs scored and one home run. His first home run of the season helped push WVU to the College World Series.

Alabama 3B Jason Torres
Alabama third baseman Jason Torres is tied for the team lead in RBIs with 51 this season. The senior from Hialeah, Fla. hit one of the Crimson Tide’s biggest home runs of the season with a grand slam to help Alabama pull away in the Super Regional against St. John’s.
“When the moment got big, they showed up,” Alabama coach Rob Vaughn told the media after Alabama clinched a World Series berth for the first time since 1999. “No better example than this guy right here (Jason Torres). What an unbelievable swing in the best spot.
“I looked at Mike Morrison right before the homer yesterday, and I said, of everybody on this team, this dude (Torres) deserves this right here. He deserves that moment, and he met it, and it was awesome.”
Torres has started all 61 games at third for Alabama this season. He’s hitting .239 with nine home runs, nine doubles and one triple.
Georgia CF Rylan Lujo.
Rylan Lujo, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound sophomore from Coconut Creek, Fla., is hitting .348 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs this season. He transferred to Georgia from Dayton, proving quickly he was ready for the SEC.
