Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion: Latino Football Player of the Week

KC Concepcion highlights weekly recap of Latinos in college football

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – KC Concepcion has been a fixture on Our Esquina’s weekly recap of Latinos in college football the last three years, dating back to when the Texas A&M star went by Kevin as he rewrote NC State’s freshman receiving records.

This year may be the Texas A&M wide receiver’s best. Concepcion, who is third in receiving yards in the SEC this season, is Our Esquina’ Latino College Football Player of the Week for the first time this season and record fifth time in his career.

Concepcion finished with 118 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns to help the Aggies improve to 5-0. He caught four passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns in the 31-9 victory over Mississippi State.

On a night the Aggies struggled offensively in the first half, Concepcion bullied his way into the end zone late in the second quarter for a 34-yard touchdown reception to give Texas A&M a 7-3 lead after the PAT. He then made another sensational catch late in the third quarter to help the Aggies go ahead 14-3 after the PAT.

Concepcion, a junior transfer, recorded the eighth multi-touchdown game in his career and third at Texas A&M.

KC Concepcion ‘strength’

“I don’t know if it’s energy as much as I would define it like strength,” Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said of Concepcion. “Like, he’s  a lot stronger than you would think, given his demeanor. And I saw that honestly firsthand when we  played him when I was at Duke.

“The year we played him when he was at NC State, they played him at running back a lot, and they were handing the ball off to him between the tackles and he was a really hard kid to tackle. I think he’s got really, really powerful lower-body strength. And I think he’s got a really good ability to change direction.”

Concepcion also had three punt returns for 35 yards with a long of 18 yards. He also had two carries for 22 rushing yards on jet sweeps.

Here’s how the other Latinos in major college football performed in Week 6:

Texas A&M freshman defensive lineman Marco Jones had one tackle for the Aggies while making his presence felt during his 10 snaps. Notre Dame defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio recorded two tackles in a 28-7 win against Boise State. Wake Forest receiver Carlos Hernandez had five receptions for 51 yards in a 30-23 win against Virginia Tech.
