UTSA wide receiver David Amador II does it all

David Amador earns Latino Player of the Week honors

Coming out of perennial national power North Shore High in Houston, UT-San Antonio receiver David Amador II was one of the most dynamic football players in Texas. As a junior wide receiver, he helped the Mustangs win a 6A state title. A year later, he moved to quarterback and led North Shore to the state championship game after the starting quarterback was injured.

Tulane saw what Texas high school football fans learned long ago – David Amador II can beat you in multiple ways. The 6-foot, 190-pound Mexican American accounted for three touchdowns to help UTSA beat Tulane 48-26.

The former Our Esquina High School All-American reached the end zone for the first time this season while handing Tulane (6-2, 3-2 in conference) its first American Conference loss this season.

The redshirt sophomore wide receiver caught a game-high 10 passes for 113 yards with two touchdowns. He also threw a 21-yard touchdown pass on a trick play.

Amador took the handoff on what appeared like a sweep. As Tulane’s defense bit, he found Devin McCuin with a perfect pass to help UTSA extend its lead to 24-6 with 3:37 left in the first half.

He had a two-yard touchdown catch and a 14-yard touchdown reception. For his performance in the primetime Thursday night game, David Amador II is Our Esquina’s Latino Player of the Week for Week 10 of the season.
