Fernando Tatis Jr. lands MLB The Show 21 Cover

Fernando Tatis Jr. becomes first Padre to grace an MLB The Show cover.

Young San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. took another major step toward becoming the face of baseball. A few days after landing the No. 1 card on Topps, the charismatic shortstop landed the cover for MLB The Show 21.

Fernando Tatis Jr. , 22, becomes the youngest player to grace the MLB The Show cover in the video game’s 16-year history. He follows Cubs infielder Javier Báez. He is also the first Padres player to grace the cover.

He joins former MVP Miguel Cabrera, the inaugural cover athlete in 2006, Adrián González, Big Papi David Ortiz, Yasiel Puig, and Baez as the only Latinos to grace the cover.

Sony Interactive Entertainment made the announcement Monday.

Tatis, the first Padres player to grace The Show cover, finished second in the National League with 17 home runs last year. His bat flips became must-see TV and virtual sensations. So naturally he is shown flipping his bat on the cover.

The San Pedro De Macoris native is the son of former slugger Fernando Tatis, the only player to hit a pair of grand slams in one inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. made his own mark with his own grand slam last year, setting social media on fire with a debate on unwritten rules.

He also became the third-youngest player in history to hit a pair of home runs in a postseason game on Oct. 1 against the Cardinals.
