Trevor Bauer: Baseball Vigilante or Villain?
Newly acquired Los Angeles Dodgers starter Trevor Bauer had no trouble accusing Houston Astros pitchers of using grip-aiding substances. However, there is evidence that suggests that for one inning back in 2018, he may have conducted an in-game experiment doing the same exact thing.
Then, in late 2019, after struggling for the better part of the season, an increase in spin rate magically appears. Could this have been another experiment or just Bauer tossing his hands up, joining those he once accused of cheating?
During the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Trevor Bauer’s spin dominance continued. This earned him an NL Cy Young Award and a 3-year, $102 million deal.
In this episode, Zach Hayes of ‘Pitcher List’ and Ben Clemens of ‘FanGraphs’ come to the Bodega to discuss whether Trevor Bauer is a baseball vigilante or just another villain?
