Full Seam Ahead

The offseason is here

  • November 5, 2024

The offseason is finally here. The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the Fall Classic, and are the 2024 World Series Champions. Full Seam Ahead hosts Lorenzo Delgado and Angel Cantu talk briefly about this year’s Fall Classic.

Alex Bregman won his first Gold Glove

Astros third baseman Alex Bregman won his first Rawlings Gold Glove in his career. Bregman led AL third basemen in games (142), fielding percentage (.972), assists (242), total chances (355) and putouts (103). Bregman would become the second third baseman to win a Gold Glove in Astros history, joining Doug Rader, who won five (1970-74).

While the guys were gone, the Astros made a couple of moves to their 40-man roster. Houston acquired outfielder Taylor Trammell from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. Jose Urquidy, who has the most World Series wins by a Mexican pitcher, was outright and is now a free agent. Moreover, outifelder Trey Cabbage, relievers Seth Martinez and Penn Murfee have been cleared off waivers. Which move was more surprising? The Astros have finalized their 2025 coaching staff. Former Astros third base coach Gary Pettis, whose contract was not renewed for the next season. Tony Perezchica has been hired as third base and infield coach/run prevention coordinator. Perezchica was the Diamondbacks third base coach since 2017. Was this a great move for Joe Espada and the Astros?

What are the Astros needs this offseason?

Eight Astros hit free agency on Monday. Cantu shares which players have a great chance of coming back to the team in 2025. What are the Astros needs at free agency? Starting pitching? Relievers? Third baseman? First baseman? The guys share their thoughts and debate which position is a bigger need entering the offseason. Lastly, the guys go Around The Horn with other free agency news.
