In the Paint Podcast: Cougars’ comeback for the ages

The Houston Cougars pulled off one the most improbable comebacks in the NCAA tournament on Saturday against heavy favorite Duke. Rios and Mario give their reactions to the epic final minutes of the game. They also highlighted the numbers off Houston’s top scoring performers.

Cougars’ unlikely comeback

According to OptaStats, a team leading in FG%, free throw attempts, assist, steals, and have less turnovers have a 335-0 record. After the Cougars roaring resurgence, according to ESPN, Houston’s 14 point deficit was the second largest halftime comeback in NCAA history. Only Loyola in 1963, who was down 15 at the half, owns the biggest come form behind win.

The Blue Devils had a nine point lead with two minutes left. Houston bounce back win was led by senior guard L.J. Cryer, who had 26 points. Emanual Sharp, who had a clutch three in the final second finished with 16 points. Forwards J’Wan Roberts and Joseph Tugler played big roles too.

Duke’s Cooper Flagg led all scores with 27 points, however he was slowed down late by Roberts.

Houston vs. Florida

Houston will meet the Gators in the NCAA Championship. The boys give their predictions on who will cut the final net of the season. Both universities have a 35-4 record. Florida won the SEC Tournament and Houston won Big-12 Tournament. The final game will feature two teams who are evenly matched.

The boys have high praise for Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr. The Lake Wales, Fla., native scored 34 points in their win over No. 1 Auburn. However Milos Uzan and Cryer have each played well in the tournament.
