
FSA: Astros’ offense struggles against Giants
After taking two out three games from the Mets to open the season, the Astros were swept by the Giants early this week.
Astros offensive woes
The Astros offense only registers six runs against San Francisco in the entire series. In game one of the three game set, Ronel Blanco pitched five innings only allowing three runs. However Houston was only able to muster two runs. As a team the struck out 10 times.
Walks were a major blow for Hayden Wesenski, who didn’t have much run support. The Houston, Texas native, walked the eighth and ninth batters, which gave way to Heliot Ramos’ double. Framber Valdez allowed five runs in five innings.
The 2024 AL West Champions are off to another slow start at the beginning of the season. The Astros offense ranks 28th in BA, 28th in Hits, and 29th in OPS. Houston has scored 12 runs in six games. Former Astros Kyle Tucker has scored six runs in each series, and has 11 RBIs.
Houston has struggled with runners in scoring position. They were a total of 4-for-15 against San Francisco. They also left five men left on base on Monday, three on Tuesday, and nine on Wednesday. Hou vs Min
The Astros take on the Minnesota Twin in a chilly three game series this weekend. An elite pitching matchup between Hunter Brown and Joe Ryan will take place on Thursday. Bailey Ober and Chris Paddack look to rebound after they both failed to pitch more than three innings. While, Spencer Arrighetti and Ronel Blanco aim to continue the streak of Astros starters pitching at least five innings.
Lance McCullars’ road back to the majors takes a big leap forward as he prepares for his second rehab start. The 2022 World Series Champion, is going to pitch on Saturday with the Corpus Christi Hooks.
