Bring on the Blitz: Texans invade the Kingdom
Join the “Bring on the Blitz” duo of Carlos Leon and Mauricio Rios as they delve into the Texans’ Divisional playoff game against the Chiefs along with the aftermath of the Wild card game against the Chargers.
Impressive win
The Texans answered their critics with an impressive 32-12 victory over the Chargers. Quarterback C.J. Stroud seemed to have returned to his old self after fumbling a snap that turned into a 34-yard completion to wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson. Stroud completed 22 of 33 attempts for 282 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Wide receiver Nico Collins had seven receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. Running back Joe Mixon was also in the mix, he rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Carlos and Rios delve into how the Texans’ defense matches up against the Chiefs. Constant pressure from the Texans’ front seven (14 pressures) forced Justin Herbert to make costly mistakes. Defensive end Will Anderson Jr. finished the game with three tackles (two solo), 1.5 sacks. Defensive end Danielle Hunter finished the game with three tackles (2 solo). First team All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley had four tackles, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. Rookie defensive back Kamari Lassiter had two tackles (one solo) and one interception. Safety Eric Murray had seven tackles (four solo) and a pick-six against Justin Herbert.
Mighty Mahomes
The boys discuss the role of the Texans’ defense to contain Patrick Mahomes and reigning Super Bowl champions offense. The two-time MVP ended the regular season throwing for 3,928 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Carlos and Rios discuss how the Texans might capitalize on potential rust from Kansas City, who haven’t played since Christmas Day.
Will the Texans’ offense continue to find their rhythm like they did against the Chargers? Can the Texans’ defense pressure Mahomes to slow down the Chiefs offense? Will John Metchie III or Xavier Hutchinson step up in the playoffs? Will the Texans finally prevail and get past the divisional round of the playoffs for the first time in franchise history?
