Astros feeling Footloose
The Houston Astros tried to stay classy in San Diego, but they lost the three-game series against the San Diego Padres. If you are a fan of great pitching this was the series for you. The entire series was reminiscent of postseason baseball as emotions ran high for both clubs.
The Astros couldn’t get much going against Yu Darvish, Michael King and Dylan Cease. The Astros’ pitching on the other hand went toe-to-toe with San Diego’s high caliber pitching staff. Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown both continued their streak of success. Since June 1, Valdez leads the American League in wins, ERA, and opponent batting average. Brown is tied for third in wins with 10, and second in ERA and opponent batting average.
The strike zone was inefficient through the series. Jose Altuve, manager Joe Espada, and hitting coach Alex Cintron were ejected in one the three games. Altuve also became shoeless during an ejection. The carne asada has very familiar faces as Valdez brings the carne. Lorenzo Delgado previews the pitching matchups that will occur in the upcoming four-game series against the Angels. On Around the Horn, general manager Dana Brown hits on important issues that the Astros will have to tackle soon. The boys also talk about the Astros dream scenario for playoffs, and many more on this episode of Full Seam Ahead.
