Astros bit by the injury bug
In the last chapter of the Oakland Athletics playing the Houston Astros, Oakland won the series with two one-run wins at Minute Maid Park. The A’s bunted their way to a victory, literally, clinching the series on Wednesday. The Astros continued their struggles of scoring runs with runners in scoring position. The ‘Stros offense were 2-for-17 with RISP and left 17 men on base. Moreover, they didn’t get any help from their defense. Nonetheless, another dominant outing by Astros’ ace Framber Valdez as he salvaged the series for the 2022 World Series Champions. Valdez pitched a 6-inning gem, and lowered his ERA to 2.91. Since June 1, the Dominican southpaw is first in wins and opponent slugging percentage.
The Astros were hit by the injury bug as both Jose Altuve and Chas McCormick were injured during the three-game series. However, one injury is more severe than the other. McCormick suffered a small fracture in his right hand. Altuve felt right side tightness and the team announced he had left Wednesday’s game with “right side discomfort.” McCormick was placed on the 10-day IL, while Altuve is day to day.
