Isa Torres, Mya Perez, Aminah Vega rack up All-America honors

Florida State junior shortstop Isa Torres, who was sensational defensively while also setting a record for consecutive hits this season, was named D1Softball’s National Player of the Year on Wednesday.

The Mexican American from Georgetown, Texas, became FSU’s first D1Softball Player of the Year. She racked up quite a bit of hardware on Wednesday. Torres also earned her first Rawlings Gold Glove.

Isa Torres joined Texas A&M junior Mya Perez and Duke senior Aminah Vega as the only Latinas named First Team All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The trio of Latinas were NFCA First-Team All-Americans for the second year in a row.

A year after setting a new FSU record with a .436 batting average, Torres broke that mark with a sensational .530 average. She added 16 home runs and 56 RBIs. Torres set an NCAA record with 16 consecutive hits from March 8-20. Torres finished the season with four FSU records – batting average, slugging percentage (.978), runs scored (78) and on-base percentage (591).

Glove excellence too

Defensively, Torres committed only two errors in 184 chances this season. She started the year with 164 chances without an error. Torres, Perez and Vega are three of the best pure hitters in college softball.

Perez led the NCAA this season with a 55-game on-base streak, dating back to last season. The slugger from Corona, Calif., posted a .602 on-base percentage and .893 slugging percentage.
