All-Star berth shows Andy Pages fruit of his labor

Andy Pages lives up to early promise

PHILADELPHIA – Immediately after the Dodgers notified Andy Pages that he was selected to his first All-Star Game, he grabbed his phone to call his family. He patiently waited for his mother Juana to pick up.

After Juana answered “hello,” Andy Pages choked up as he tried to tell her that he was going to Philadelphia for the 96th All-Star Game.

“They just told me all the time that you saw that work always brings its fruit,” Pages said. “To continue working (and) better things will come than that in the following years.

“I have the opportunity to keep achieving these goals and even more. They’re always giving me that motivation, and that pushes always.”

More goals ahead

Andy Pages has bounced back from a difficult postseason. As the Dodgers won their second consecutive World Series title, he had a difficult time finding a rhythm. Pages did have a memorable play where he made a game-saving grab at the left-center field wall over Kike Hernandez in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.

Besides that miraculous play, the 25-year-old outfielder struggled offensively. He hit .078 with only four hits, one RBI, and two runs scored in 16 games.

Nevertheless, Pages and the Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays and win the 2025 World Series. The two-time World Series champion celebrated with his teammates and Los Angeles.

After the festivities, he headed into the offseason with a chip on his shoulder.

“I worked hard in my approach, my swing, and my defense,” Pages said. “I believe that the small things were the ones that did the big difference to date. And even today I continue to work on it so that I can continue to improve.”

His hard work is showing. Pages is having a breakout season. The Cuban slugger is hitting .270. He has a .336 on-base percentage, .471 slugging, 21 doubles, 17 homers, 66 RBIs and an .807 OPS.

Pages was named the National League Player of the Week on April 6. He is tied with the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz for seventh-most RBIs in MLB.

Andy Pages shows growth

Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has watched Pages’ growth since spring training. One particular moment stands out against the Padres at Petco Park. In the ninth inning of a tie ballgame, Pages had a nine-pitch at-bat against Padres closer Mason Miller.

Pages gave the Dodgers the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly, which was just enough for Los Angeles to defeat San Diego.

“For him to have the composure and put together that kind of battle against a guy as good as Mason Miller, man, wow,” Muncy said. “This year has been extremely special year for him.

“When you consider what he went through in the postseason last year. For a young player it would’ve been extremely easy for someone to crumble. It didn’t go how he wanted to, but for him to come back this year and put all that behind him, and continue to grow as a player and as a person. It’s just been really, really cool to watch for me personally.”

Glove work

The Havana, Cuba, native finished the game hitless with a strikeout in the Midsummer Classic. Defensively, he tracked a ball in right center to rob his former Dodger teammate and fellow countryman Miguel Vargas of a base hit.

“Incredible,” Pages said after playing his first All-Star Game. “A lot of emotions going through my mind, but just trying to enjoy it as much as I can.”

The All-Star nod validates what Pages’ teammates have always known.

“I’ve always thought he was going to be a great player for us, and he’s really growing into that,” Muncy said of Pages. “Also, the work that he’s put in for center field, I know that was something a lot of people doubted him.

“We never did, but a lot of people have doubted his ability in center field. And for him to become one of the best defensive center fielders, I think it’s absolutely incredible and speaks to him as a person.”
